UPDATE: 21 November, 6.50am – SH1 north of Timaru reopened after fatal crash

State Highway 1 just north of Timaru is open again after a fatal vehicle crash yesterday.

After emergency services completed their work and crash debris was cleared from the site, the road reopened about 1.20am this morning. 

20 November, 6pm – Serious crash impacting SH1 near Timaru

Road users are being asked to avoid State Highway 1 just north of Timaru after a serious vehicle crash.

Emergency services are at the scene of the crash involving a car and truck, near the intersection with Brosnan Road. Police said initial indications were there were serious injuries.

Southbound road users are encouraged to detour by turning right onto Arowhenua Road, left on Timaru-Pleasant Point Highway/State Highway 8, and then back onto SH1. The reverse will apply for northbound traffic.
