Update, 1:30pm:

SH2 Takitimu Drive has now reopened between Elizabeth Street and the Waihi Road interchange following an earlier crash.

12.30pm:

State Highway 2 (SH2) is closed in both directions between Elizabeth Street and the Waihi Road interchange due to a crash. 

The road is expected to remain closed for some time. People are urged to avoid the area and allow extra time for a detour.

For light vehicles, SH2 and SH29 travellers can exit onto 15th Avenue. Heavy vehicles will need to use SH29A (via Moffat/Cambridge/SH29).
