25 May – 6am: SH8 reopened after fatal crash

State Highway 8/Tekapo-Twizel Road, between Tekapo and Lake Pukaki, reopened about 2am this morning, following a fatal two-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon.

The road was reopened after police’s Serious Crash Unit completed investigations at the site, and the road was fully cleared.

24 May – 5.15pm: Serious crash closes SH8 near Lake Tekapo

State Highway 8/Tekapo-Twizel Road between Tekapo and Lake Pukaki in the Mackenzie District has been closed following a serious crash this afternoon.

The crash happened near the intersection with Tekapo Canal Road. Emergency services are attending.

People are asked to delay their journeys or consider an alternate route. A closure of several hours is possible.
