UPDATE: 8pm – SH85 reopened after crash

State Highway 85 in North Otago, between Omakau and Idaburn, has reopened after a serious crash earlier today.

Road users are asked to travel with care through the area.  

5pm – SH85 expected to reopen this evening

The work of emergency services is expected to continue into this evening at the site of a serious crash on State Highway 85 in North Otago. However, the stretch of road Omakau and Idaburn is expected to be cleared and reopened tonight.

A detour remains available for westbound traffic by turning turn left onto Ida Valley-Omakau Road, continuing along Ida Valley-Omakau Road, then turning left back onto SH85. The reverse applies for eastbound traffic.

1:30pm – SH85 in North Otago closed by crash

Detours are in place after a serious vehicle crash closed a section of State Highway 85 in North Otago.

The crash, near St Bathans Loop Road, is being attended by emergency services. The highway is closed between Omakau and Idaburn, and road users are asked to avoid the area or delay their travel if they can.

For those in that area, a detour is available for westbound traffic by turning turn left onto Ida Valley-Omakau Road, continuing along Ida Valley-Omakau Road, then turning left back onto SH85. The reverse applies for eastbound traffic.
