The Terrace Tunnel has reopened in both directions following a four-car crash earlier this afternoon.

The route was closed for around one hour while the incident was being resolved and the crashed vehicles removed.

The Terrace Tunnel in Wellington is closed to traffic in both directions following a crash this afternoon.

The incident, involving multiple vehicles, was reported shortly before 2 pm. Contractors and emergency services are attending.

The tunnel will remain closed until the crash site is cleared. Work is underway to resolve the incident.

Drivers heading in and out of the Wellington CBD must avoid the area and use an alternative route until the tunnel reopens. Travel delays can be expected.

Detours:

• For southbound traffic, use Terrace offramp onto The Terrace onto Ghuznee Street onto Victoria Street onto Vivian Street.
• For Northbound traffic, use Willis Street onto Ghuznee Street onto the Terrace onto Everton Terrace onto Clifton Onramp.
• These detours will add approximately five minutes to travel times.
