Watermain connection the next step in SH57/Tararua Road roundabout construction

Crews working on the new State Highway 57 / Tararua Road roundabout will be completing the installation of a new watermain later this week.

Work begins on Thursday 1 May and is expected to be completed on Wednesday 7 May.

During this week of work, stop/go temporary traffic management will be in place at the

eastern section of Tararua Road. This will ensure that traffic can continue to use the intersection, while keeping crews and road users safe.

The stop/go traffic management on the eastern side is in addition to the traffic management and detours already in place.

Work began in January on the first stage of the roundabout construction* and that work is progressing well. As a result of that work, access to the western side of Tararua Road remains closed, until June, with a detour in place.

During the 1 week of work, crews will be working 7am to 5pm most days. There will be no work on Saturday 3 May and the following day, Sunday, different crews will be onsite for a 24 hour period (between 7am Sunday and 7am Monday) to connect the watermain.

Once the watermain connection is complete, access from SH57 to the eastern section of Tararua Road will be restored. Work on the roundabout will then continue under the same traffic management conditions as before.

If this work needs to be extended for any reason, crews will continue working on the watermain connection on Thursday 8 May.

As the project progresses, road users will continue to see a lot of activity around the site, and following the completion in June of this stage of the roundabout, crews will start work on the eastern side of the roundabout.

The entire roundabout should be completed later this year.
