Wellington urban highway resurfacing - night works update

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising drivers of changes to scheduled resurfacing works on SH1 in Wellington. The updated works schedule is due to recent poor weather preventing previously scheduled from being completed.

The work is part of the ongoing state highway summer maintenance programme, which ensures the region’s highways are kept safe and resilient for road users.

Monday 27 April 9pm – Tuesday 28 April 4:30am

  • SH1 Grenada to Johnsonville southbound
    • The southbound off ramp will be closed for paving works and two light pole replacements
    • Detour Westchester Drive > Middleton Road >SH1

Tuesday 28 April night 9pm – Wednesday 29 April 4:30am

  • SH1 Tawa to Johnsonville southbound
    • SH1 Tawa to Johnsonville southbound closure with a detour via Middleton Road
    • Churton Park and Grenada residents needing to travel southbound on SH1 must access SH1 via Johnsonville southbound onramp
    • Access to Churton Park and Grenada for SH1 southbound traffic is available at Tawa/Takapu Road offramp and via Middleton Road.

Wednesday 29 April 9pm – Thursday 30 April 4:30am

  • SH1 Tawa to Grenada southbound
    • SH1 closed southbound from Tawa offramp to Grenada on ramp for paving works
    • Detour Takapu roundabout > Westchester Drive > Middleton Road and back on SH1 by Grenada on-ramp.

Thursday 30 April, 9pm – Friday 1 May 4.30am

  • SH59 full closure
    • SH59 will be fully closed between Ames Street and Beach Road, Paekakariki for resurfacing works
    • Detour for north and southbound traffic via Ames Street (suitable for heavy vehicles).
