Wet weather in Waikato – slow down and drive with care

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 7 Oct 2025 8:48am | Waikato

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is urging caution on the roads this morning as wet weather has caused closures on State Highway (SH) 31 to Kāwhia due to flooding and a tree blocking both lanes.

SH32 between Tokoroa and Whakamaru is also currently blocked in both lanes due to a fallen tree.

NZTA is reminding people to drive to the conditions and drive with care.

Road users should also be aware that the risk of slippery roads is highest shortly after the rain begins, but the conditions can last for some time. Take extra care on curves and when braking and steering.

Heavy rain also increases the risks of slips and localised flooding. Road users must be prepared for these hazards and drive accordingly.

Bad weather can also see roads closed at short notice. Drivers are encouraged to check road and weather conditions before they travel on the NZTA Journey Planner.
