3 October – Poor weather to extend work into a third week
Poor weather has delayed the renewal work on State Highway 1/East Street in Ashburton, meaning it will need to go into a third week.
The work on the stretch of road from north of the Ashburton Bridge to the South Street intersection, requiring stop/go traffic management, was due to conclude next week. But the loss of several work shifts this week due to the weather means the work will need to continue into the week starting Monday 13 October.
We appreciate the patience of residents and road users. Additional updates will be issued as required if weather further affects the programme of work.
19 September – Work to complete SH1 renewal in Ashburton
Completion of the renewal of State Highway 1/East Street in Ashburton from later this month will mean additional traffic measures in place over several nights.
From Sunday 28 September, on the stretch of road from north of the Ashburton Bridge to the South Street intersection, there will be stop/go traffic management in place on SH1 northbound, SH1 southbound and for South Street, from 8pm to 6am Sunday to Thursday.
A 30km/h temporary speed limit will also apply in the affected work area. These measures will end at 6am on Thursday 9 October. Road users should expect increased congestion and delays of up to 10 minutes travelling through this area.
This traffic management will allow work on the third and final stage to resurface the road, following on from stages 1 and 2 completed earlier this year.
We thank the people of Ashburton and road users in advance for their patience while this necessary work is completed.
