Important information for drivers.
Lower North Island
- Road reconstruction work will begin in Carterton on 11 May. Drainage and safety works are also being conducted at Totara Park in Upper Hutt. Travelers between the Hutt Valley and Masterton on State Highway 2 should plan for additional travel time due to these ongoing works.
- Planned maintenance will be underway on the Mount Victoria and Terrace Tunnels on Monday and Tuesday nights. The Terrace Tunnel will be closed on Monday night between 9 pm and 4 am, and Mount Victoria Tunnel will be closed on Tuesday night – also between 9 pm and 4 am. Drivers heading through the Wellington CBD will need to use alternative routes and allow for extra travel time.
- There will be a one-night closure of State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill on Sunday, 18 May. Regular users of the route are advised to plan ahead and book an escorted crossing if they need to travel between Upper Hutt and Wairarapa on that night.
Top of the South Island
- In Marlborough, the local lines company will be replacing streetlights in Blenheim near the Sinclair Street Bridge on Sunday night (11 May) from 7 pm to 2 am. Stop/Go traffic management and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit will be in place, and drivers can expect delays of around 10 minutes while this work is completed. Drivers, particularly those with Picton ferry connections, should factor this into their travel plans.
- In Marlborough, work on a clip-on cycle bridge for the Whale Trail has been rescheduled. Work on the Waima (Ure) River Bridge will now begin on 19 May and run until 23 May.
- Road closures continue for safety barrier works on State Highway 60 Ruby Bay Bypass.
- Coming up, road repairs are planned for State Highway 6 Whakatu Drive. Resilience works are due to begin on 19 May at the Howard Narrows on State Highway 63 and also on State Highway 6 Whangamoa.
