Important information for drivers.
Lower North Island
- Night closures are planned for Monday and Tuesday nights, 9 pm to 4:30 am, for maintenance work for the Terrace Tunnel. Drivers travelling on State Highway 1 through the Wellington CBD will have to use alternative local road routes and allow extra time for their journeys.
- In Wairarapa, there will be a night closure in Featherston on Thursday night between 9 pm and 4 am. The closure will be near the SH2/SH53 intersections and is for road resurfacing and patching. Local road detours will be available.
- Looking ahead, nightworks for a road rebuild and drainage works are planned at State Highway 1 Kuku from 24 August, and a night closure is planned for State Highway 58 next month for maintenance works
Top of the South Island
- State Highway 6 Rocks Road will be under stop/go traffic management between 8pm and midnight on Wednesday. A southbound lane closure and 30 km/h temporary speed limit will be in place while contractors carry out street light repairs.
- Drivers travelling on State Highway 60 over the Tākaka Hill are urged to obey temporary speed limits in place at all underslip and slump sites. Repairs are planned for these areas, but it is essential drivers reduce their speed when travelling through them as it helps reduce the risk of further damage to the road and also to their vehicles.
- Resilience project works continue on the Whangamoa Hill on State Highway 6 as do slip repairs at State Highway 6 Dellows Bluff
The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week.
