Nighttime works planned for State Highway 1 Pukehou Overbridge repairs - Ōtaki to Manakau
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi | 22 May 2025 12:11pm | Wellington
More investment in State Highway 1 infrastructure is coming with repairs planned for the Pukehou Overbridge next week.
Road crews will carry out joint repairs on the bridge next Monday and Tuesday nights (26 and 27 May), between 9 pm and 5 am.
Replacing the joints will mean the bridge will be safer, less prone to potholes, leaks, and deterioration. It also helps fix cracks in the road’s surface on the overbridge
The bridge is safe to drive over. The planned repairs prevent damage from getting worse and requiring more expensive repairs in the future.
Because there are no viable local road detours available and the work has to be done within the restricted space available on the overbridge, stop/stop traffic management has to be used.
It means vehicles will be stopped in both directions for periods of up to 10 minutes while the nightworks are underway.
Drivers travelling between Ōtaki and Manakau should plan ahead and expect delays. Traffic management set-up starts from 8 pm.
Every effort is being made to reduce the impact of these repairs on the public. The work has been deliberately timed to happen at night when fewer vehicles are on the highway.
Road users must follow instructions of road crews and obey all traffic controls at the work site. They are there to keep everyone safe.
Works schedule:
