NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) contractors will undertake road rebuild works on a section of State Highway 10 (SH10) at Oromāhoe in the new year. 

From Tuesday 13 January 7pm to Friday 16 January 7pm, SH10 will be closed between SH1/SH10 Pakaraka intersection and SH10/SH11 Puketona Roundabout. 

From Monday 19 January to Friday 30 January, SH10 will be closed during the day only from 7am – 7pm (with 2-4 February as contingency). 

The road will be fully open Saturday 24 to Monday 26 January for Northland/Auckland Anniversary. 

Northbound traffic will detour via State Highway 1 (SH1), Old Bay Road, and Te Ahu Ahu Road, before rejoining SH10. Southbound traffic will use the same detour, in reverse (map below). 

The detour is expected to add about 5 minutes to people’s journeys.

Work will involve removing the old pavement layers and rebuilding the road, to improve the longevity, resilience and ultimately the safety of the road for everyone. 

By closing the road, the project will be completed around two weeks earlier than if it was done under stop/go traffic management. This will help avoid congestion when school starts and ahead of Waitangi weekend. 

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses within the closure area, and emergency services will be accommodated at all times. Note, there will be increased noise for residents in the area during work hours. 

Contractors will undertake sealing and routine maintenance work within the closure area to make the most of the closure and minimise future disruption. 

Please treat our crews with kindness and respect. Reduce your speed, adhere to the temporary speed limits and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs.
