Update: Serious crash closes State Highway 2 near Tauwharenīkau (SH2 now OPEN)

State Highway 2 has reopened following this morning’s crash. The highway was closed for approximately two and a half hours.

Drivers are asked to continue to take caution while travelling through the area.

Drivers travelling on State Highway 2 in Wairarapa can expect ongoing delays for several hours as emergency services attend a serious crash near Tauwharenīkau.

The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the single vehicle crash, and the road is expected to remain closed until this work is complete. There is no estimated time for the highway to reopen.

Local road detours are available but require extra travel time.

Drivers should continue to avoid the area, use sign-posted detours, and expect delays until the incident is resolved and the highway reopens.

State Highway 2 in Wairarapa is closed between Number 1 Line and Bidwills Cutting Rd following a serious crash earlier this morning.

The incident was reported shortly before 9 am.
