9.10pm – SH1 fully reopened after crash

State Highway 1/Herbert-Hampden Road in North Otago has reopened fully after a fatal crash earlier today.

Following the three-vehicle crash about 2pm, the stretch of SH1/Herbert-Hampden Road near the intersection with Mile Flat Road was closed, and it initially opened to a single lane with road users stopping on demand around 8pm this evening. Vehicles involved have now been removed from the crash site following police investigations, and the road is fully clear.

People are asked to continue to travel with care on this route.


3.10pm – SH1 closed after serious crash

State Highway 1/Herbert-Hampden Road, near Hampden in North Otago, is now closed following a serious crash.

2.50pm – Serious crash in North Otago blocks SH1

Road users are being urged to avoid State Highway 1/Herbert-Hampden Road in North Otago, or to delay their journeys, after a serious crash this afternoon.

The multi-vehicle crash occurred just north of the intersection with Mile Flat Road. Emergency services are attending and the road is reportedly blocked.

People in the area are asked to follow the directions of emergency services at the crash site.
