Winter is here and with it comes cold weather and increased risk of ice and snow on southern highways – particularly in alpine areas. Lower North Island:
Planned state highway tunnel maintenance will be underway in the Wellington CBD next week. The Arras Tunnel will be closed on Monday night, The Terrace Tunnel on Monday night, and Mount Victoria Tunnel on Tuesday night. Closures will be in place between 9 pm and 4 am. Drivers travelling in and out of the city will need to use alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys.
Rebuild and safety barrier works are ongoing on State Highway 2 Totara Park in Upper Hutt, a road rebuild continues on State Highway 2 in Masterton, and there will be a planned maintenance night closure of the Rumtaka Hill on 15 June.

Top of the South Island:
Resilience works continue at Howard Narrows on State Highway 63 until the end of the month, and also on State Highway 6 Whangamoa until late July. Stop/go traffic management remains in place on State Highway 1 Weld Pass for drainage works until Friday, 13 June.
