Lower North Island/Upper South Island - Planned state highway roadworks

Important information for drivers.
Lower North Island
- Road rebuild and drainage works continue at State Highway 1 near Kuku until 18 September.
- On State Highway 58, there will be a night closure this Sunday night for infrastructure works on Paremata Road. There will also be another night closure on the highway on Sunday, 14 September between Haywards Hill and Pāuatahanui. Meanwhile, the northbound on-ramp at State Highway 59 Titahi Bay/Porirua will have closures and nightworks next week
- Nightworks are coming for State Highway 2 Upper Hutt in mid-September for resurfacing works
- There is a night closure this Sunday for State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill. Dates for planned closures for the first half of 2026 have also been confirmed.
- In the Wellington CBD there will be the regular monthly maintenance closures for tunnels on State Highway 1. The Terrace Tunnel will be closed on Monday night, and Mount Victoria Tunnel will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The closures run from 9 pm to 4:30 am. Drivers travelling in and out of the city must use alternative routes and should allow for extra travel time.
Top of the South Island
- There will be stop/go traffic management on State Highway 6 Rocks Road on Wednesday night as contractors carry out inspections and install geofabric on the cliff
- Slip repairs continue at State Highway 6 Dellows Bluff
- Resilience works on State Highway 6 Whangamoa Saddle have been paused as the project prepares to move to its next phase. It means there will be no stop/go traffic management on the route until the project resumes. This is anticipated to happen before the end of the month. Updates will be provided before the project restarts.
